Bolso reciclado / Recycled bag

Hi everyone.

El reciclaje parece una tendencia nueva que poco a poco va calando en nosotros. Y aunque en realidad no es algo tan nuevo resulta imprescindible si queremos conservar este planeta que llamamos casa.

Recycling seems to be a new trend which is catching on. And even if it is really not so new it has become essential if we want to preserve this planet we call home.

(Nota: no sé quien es el/la autor/a de esta imagen pero la primera vez que la vi en una camiseta me pareció tremendamente acertada. Si el/la responsable desea que la elimine no tiene más que contactar conmigo. Grazie.

 Antiguamente era habitual lo de reparar cualquier objeto o reutilizarlo con otra finalidad antes de simplemente deshacernos de él. Una de las últimas tendencias en manualidades como el patchwork es tan antiguo como el mundo. Las distintas prendas de ropa (para las personas o para la casa) eran un artículo caro y por tanto descartarlas por una pequeña rotura no era una opción viable, sino que se reparaban. Si se podía hacer de una forma artística, pues mejor, pero si el arte no era posible por lo menos se alargaba su vida.

In the old days it was common to repair an object or reuse for a different purpose before simply throwing it away. One of the latest trends in crafts like patchwork is as old as the world itself. Clothes (for people or for home) were an expensive item so discarding them just because of a small tearing was not an option. Instead they were mended, in an artistic way if possible but when art was not possible the clothes life was expanded.

En mi familia este enfoque estaba a la orden del día. Mi abuela era de esas generaciones que aprovechaban todo lo que podían. Básicamente por que no había mucho así que había que ser ingenioso para sacarle todo el partido a lo que tenían. Uno de mis recuerdos de infancia es ver a mi abuela cosiendo. Todo tipo de cosas: reparando algo, creando algo a partir de restos... Pero adoraba coser y obviamente me lo transmitió por que yo iba siempre pegada a ella como un chicle a un zapato (otro día hablaré de mis otros héroes que me hicieron como soy).

In my family this point of view was commonday. Granny was part of those generation that made the most out of everything. Basically because there was not much of anything so they must be clever to use to the full extent each resource they have. One of my chilhood memories is to see my grandma sewing. All kind of things: repairing something, creating something from rags... But she loved sewing and obviously she passed this love to me as I was always stuck to her as a chewing gum to a shoe (some other day I will explain you about my other heroes who made me the way I am).

En lo del ganchillo soy autodidacta, a base de libros y tutoriales de internet. Pero también me sirve para reciclar y eso es lo que hice con este bolso. 

When talking about crochet I'm self-taught, with books and internet tutorials. But I can use it to recycle too and that's what I did with this bag.

Originalmente era un bolso tipo saco de loneta cruda, envuelto en una especie de gasa del mismo color y con las asas de raso bordadas con lentejuelas doradas. La gasa se desgastó y se rompió en algunos puntos pero el resto del bolso estaba bien. Lo que hice fue recortar con cuidado la gasa y sustituirla por una redecilla tejida en ganchillo con hilo en color caldera (me encanta ese color).

It originally was a big bag made with light coloured thin canvas, wraped in muslin the same colour and handles made of satin and embroidered with golden sequins. Muslin weared away and tore in some points but the rest was ok. I carefully cut the muslin and substitute for a crocheted net with a dark red thread.

No os voy a poner el patrón porque me lo fui inventando sobre la marcha combinando cosas de otros patrones que tenía por ahí: la base de un bolso, la redecilla con puntitos de otro y la parte superior completamente a la remanguillé para que se adaptara lo mejor posible a la forma del bolso. No ha quedado tan mal ¿no?

I'm not giving you any pattern 'cause I invented it as I worked, combining parts of other patterns I previously had: the base came from the pattern of a bag, the net with dots was from a different one and the top was totally invented so it would adapt as best as possible to the bag shape. Not so bad, what do you think?

Aparte de eso, este fue uno de los proyectos que se quedaron a medias cuando tuve que dejar las manualidades y labores en pausa y ha costado un poco coger el ritmo para acabarlo.

Apart from that, this was one of the PhD (projects half done) when I had to stop crafting and it took me quite a long time to reengage so I could finish it.

Mi problema con este bolso es que de verdad es grande (recuerdo de una vida pasada en la que lo importante era la moda). Cuando le meto tooodas las cosas que necesito llevar pesa una barbaridad. Y todas sabemos que cuanto más grande el bolso más cosas "necesitamos" meter ¿o no?

My problem with this bag is that it is really big (I can remember a past life when the most important issue was fashion). When I put in aaaaaall the things I nee it becomes incredibly heavy. And we all know that the bigger the bag, the more stuff we "need" to put in, right?
