Hace muchísimo tiempo que no cuento nada por aquí. Y hoy vengo a contaros que uno de mis trabajos ya está en su nuevo hogar. ¿Recordáis los marca páginas a punto de cruz? Pues el segundo ya está con su nueva dueña, una amiga del trabajo que se ha jubilado y a la que le deseo todo lo mejor en esta nueva etapa. Such a long time I haven't post a single word. Today I'm here to tell you one of my little pieces is finally at its new home. Do you remember my cross stitch bookmarks? Pendientes calabacitas ganchillo / Pumpkin crochet earrings

Halloween está a la vuelta de la esquina. ¿Ya habéis decidido vuestro disfraz de este año?

Cuando era pequeña aprovechaba cualquier oportunidad para disfrazarme. En aquella época en España no teníamos costumbre pero a la enana de entonces le hubiera encantado. Los caramelos me daban igual y posiblemente no hubiera querido ir de casa en casa, con un montón de desconocidos. Pero lo de disfrazarme.... Me encantaba.

When I was a little girl I took every opportunity to dress up. On that time in Spain we didn't use to but the little rascal I was would have loved it. I didn't care about candy and probably I would never dared to go around houses, with lots of strangers. But dressing up.... I loved it.

Al hacerme mayor me he vuelto una persona seria y responsable (¡¡¡JA!!!) y no me disfrazo. A cambio soy capaz de ponerme los complementos más insospechados si me gustan. Y como me gustan las calabazas cuando encontré este patrón no pude evitarlo. Ahora son mis pendientes de la semana de Halloween (y de muchos otros días, me da igual la fecha).

Growing up I became a responsible person (HA!!!) and I don't dress up. In return, I can wear the most unconceivable accessories if I like them. And since I like pumpkins I couldn't help when I found this pattern. Now they are my Halloween week earrings (and many other days, I don't care about the date).

No pesan nada de nada. Están hechas a partir de un patrón gratuito de Divine Debris que lo explica de maravilla. ¡Y son una monería! Desde luego que no vais a pasar inadvertid@s cuando os los pongáis.

They are so light. They are made from a free pattern by Divine Debris who explains it really easy. And they are such nice thingies!!!! For sure you will be noticed when you wear them.

Pendientes angelitos / Angel earrings

Hi everyone.

Cuando la gente me pregunta cuánto tiempo llevo haciendo artesanías me resulta imposible dar una respuesta sencilla. Desde que tengo memoria, por no alargarme. 

Whenever people ask me how long I have been crafting I really cannot give an easy answer. Since I can remember, in order not to make it too long.

Como a tod@s l@s niñ@s me encantaba hacerme pulseritas con cuentas y hacer manualidades y una cosa llevó a la otra. Mi abuela y mi madre me enseñaron a coser, lo intentaron con el ganchillo y el punto pero no tuvieron éxito. El bordado me convenció más y cuando llegó internet aprendí muchas otras técnicas, como el ganchillo. En serio, si yo he conseguido aprender ganchillo a base de dibujos y vídeos cualquiera puede.

Same as every kiddo I loved to make simple bracelets with beads and make crafts and one thing lead to another. My grandma and my mum taught me to sew, they tried with crochet and knitting but they were not succesful. Embroidery was more my brand of whiskey and when the internet crashed into my life I learned many other techniques, like crochet. Really, if I have been able to learn crochet with drawings and videos, everybody can do it.

Una de esas cosas en las que mejoré drásticamente gracias a internet fue la bisutería. Y estos pendientes son prueba de ello.

One of these crafts in which I dramatically improved thanks to the internet was beading. These earrings are a good proof.

En realidad el diseño original era para otra cosa (y posiblemente algún día lo use para el propósito original) pero lo cierto es que cuando hice la primera parte empecé a visualizar posibilidades y acabé con estos angelitos tan cuquis. Están hechos con rocallas de diferentes tamaños y bolas facetadas de cristal checo combinadas con las piezas de alitas y voilá, unos angelitos molones. Como son pequeñitos no pesan mucho y son bastante cómodos de llevar, menos ahora con las gomas de la mascarilla y demás incordios. Pero bueno, esto también pasará.

To be true the original design was meant for something else (and maybe some day I will use it for the original purpose) but as soon as I made the first part I started visualizing different posibilities and in the end I got these cute little angels. They are made with seed beads in different sizes and Czech faceted crystal beads combined with the winged part and voilá, whizzbang little angels. Since they are small they are light and comfortable to wear, not now with the elastic bands from the mask and other pains in the neck. But, this will pass too.

Marcapáginas mariposas / Butterfly bookmark

Hi everyone.

Mira lo que he encontrado en un libro que hacía siglos que no leía. Uno de mis primeros marcapáginas en punto de cruz. Ay, que ilusión me ha hecho verlo otra vez. Creía que lo había perdido.

Look what I found in a book I haven't read for ages. One of my first cross stitch bookmarks. Oh, I was so thrilled to see it again. I thought I have lost it.

Tuve una época que hice muchos de éstos. La verdad es que eran un regalito de lo más práctico. Creo que éste es de un libro de la American School of Needlework. Me encantan los diseños de esta editorial (y los de otras muchas, ya sabéis) y tengo muchos libros suyos.

There was a time when I made a lot of these. They were a very nice little present. I think this is from a book by American School of Needlework. I love their designs (and many other publishers, you know) and I have many of their books.

No son los únicos, por supuesto. Otra de mis diseñadoras favoritas es Teresa Wentzler. También he hecho varios trabajos con sus diseños. Ya os enseñé su marcapáginas con el dragón Stretch hace algún tiempo. Tengo varios diseños suyos bordados y esperando un rato para montarlos.

They're not the only ones, of course. Another of my favourite designers is Teresa Wentzler. I have done some works with her designs too. I've already told your about her Stretch dragon bookmark some time ago. I have some of her designs finished just waiting for a little while to use them in some other works.

Antifaz unicornio / Unicorn sleeping mask

Hi everyone.

Tengo la suerte de tener algunas buenas amigas que son capaces de entender mis locuras. Es muy divertido tener amigas así por que de vez en cuando tienes ideas disparatadas, se las cuentas y les parece la mejor idea del mundo. La historia de hoy es una de esas.

I am so lucky to have some good friends who are able to understand my crazyness. It's really funny to have this kind of friends 'cause now and then I have ridiculous ideas, I tell them and they think it is the best idea ever. Today's story is one of those.

Una amiga tuvo que operarse de la vista y su oftalmóloga le recomendó que durmiera con antifaz durante unos días. Mientras nos lo contaba yo recordé que había visto en una tienda de Etsy unos antifaces de ganchillo de lo más cucos, con forma de gatitos y unicornios. Ya sé que suena muy infantil pero "lo peor" es que mientras ella estaba distraída con otras cosas se lo enseñé a la otra amiga y se le quedó la misma cara de "esto es ideal" que a mí. Así que le hice uno, para avergonzarla un poquito.

A friend of mine had some surgery on her eyes and her ophthalmologist advised her to use a sleeping mask for some days. As she was telling us I remembered I had seen some cute crochet sleeping masks in an Etsy shop, featuring cats and unicorns. I know it sounds childish but "worst of it" is that as she was distracted with something else I showed the picture to our other friend and she look exactly the same "this-is-just-too-perfect" face than mine. So I made one for her, just to shame her a bit.

No os pongo el patrón por que lo fui improvisando, la base de un patrón japonés, las flores de un libro, las orejitas y el cuerno de un bolso infantil.... 

I'm not giving you the pattern because I improvised it: I used the base from a Japanese pattern, the flowers from a book, the ears and horn from a child bag...

Los antifaces de dormir me gustan más con gomita pero como tenía los ojitos delicados por la operación y no le podía tomar medidas (era una sorpresa) le puse cintas. Pero si quieres, corasón, quedamos y te lo cambio (así tenemos excusa para vernos 2 veces, no solo 1).

I prefer sleeping masks with an elastic band but I used ribbons since she had sensitive eyes because of surgery and I could not measure her (it was a surprise). But if you like my dear we can meet and I will change it for you (so we have to meet twice and not only once).

Y eso es todo por hoy.

Funda libreta / Notebook cover

Hi everyone.

Señoras y señores, se acerca el otoño. En 5 días lo tendremos aquí y eso significa entre otras cosas que se nos acaban las vacaciones 😢😢😢 y hay que volver al tajo. Para que no se haga tan cuesta arriba me he hecho un regalito: una funda para mis libretas.

Ladies and gentlemen, autumn is coming. 5 more days and it will be here and that means, amongst other things, holidays are coming to an end 😢😢😢 and we must go back to work. Since the return is so tough I have made a little present for myself: a notebook cover.

Para trabajar habitualmente utilizo una libreta tamaño A4 y una agenda A5 pero este año he decidido cambiar y la agenda también va a ser A4 y me la voy a hacer yo (luego os cuento).

I usually work with an A4 notebook and an A5 planner but this year I decided to change a bit and the planner will be also an A4. And I'm making it (I'll tell you later).

Había estado viendo ideas por internet y al final me decidí a hacerme una funda tipo Midori (que al final no ha sido así pero eso es otra historia). Si buscáis un poquito encontraréis montones de ejemplos y tutoriales para hacer vuestra versión. Hacía mucho que no hacía fundas de libreta y que estaba dando vueltas a la cabeza para hacer proyectos reciclando materiales. Y como además tenía unas ganas locas de coser pues ha sido la excusa perfecta para juntarlo todo. 

I had been browsing through the web and in the end I decided to follow Midori style (it didn't turn exactly that way but that's a different story). If you browse a bit you'll find lots of examples and tutorials to make your own version. It had been a long time I didn't made a notebook cover and I was thinking about doing some projects using recycled materials. And I was dying to sew a bit too so it was the perfect excues to put it all together.

El exterior y las solapas interiores están hechos con las perneras de unos vaqueros de mi costillo. Como con la pernera no tenía suficiente anchura le puse un lomo de trozos y para ocultar las costuras usé unas cintas rescatadas de un regalo (sí, en mi casa no se tira nada y menos si es de tela). Lo podéis ver mejor en la siguiente foto de la agenda abierta por fuera.

Outside and inside flaps come from the legs of a pair of jeans from hubby. Since it wasn't wide enough I patched a piece for the spine and to hide the seams I used some ribbons from old presents (no, we don't throw a single piece of anything textile at my place). You can see it better in the next picture, the open cover on the outside.

Para decorar el frontal utilicé mi dragón de paper piecing y también le puse la misma cinta roja para ocultar los bordes más feos.

I used my paper piecing dragon to decorate the front side and used the same red ribbon to hide the ugly borders.

Después para el interior rescaté tela de una falda.

Then I used fabric from an old skirt for the inner part.

Así es como se ve la parte interior de la funda.

And that's how it looks like when notebooks are in their place.

Este año la agenda me la voy a customizar a mi gusto. Os enseño la primera página de Octubre.

This year I will customize my planner. Let me show you the page for October.

Obviamente no lo he dibujado yo, encontré estas ilustraciones en la página de Annie's place y me gustó tanto que he hecho manualidades con ellas. Además así podré usar las páginas en blanco para practicar un poquito el lettering (nueva tendencia), a ver si con ideas sencillas consigo mejorar mis dotes artísticas de dibujo. Solo espero que no se convierta en un vicio más de los muchos que tengo pero me da que tiene todos los números (es que usa colorines y dibujitos y monerías variadas y a mí todo eso me vuelve loca).

Obviously I didn't draw it, I found these images in Annie's place webpage and I like it so much I have been crafting with it. In addition I could use the white pages to practice lettering (new trend) a bit, and maybe practicing with simple ideas I can improve my abbilities with artistic drawing. I just hope it doesn't turn into a new vice from my long list but I'm not confident on that issue (it uses colours and cute thingies and all of that drives me nuts).

¡Unas pincitas para coser! No estaba muy segura sobre esta herramienta pero lo cierto es que me ha gustado. Simplemente sustituyen a los alfileres en los bordes y así no quedan marcas en la tela.

A bunch of clothespins for sewing! I wasn't sure about this tool but to be true I like it. You can use them to substitute pins around the borders of a piece of fabric so there are no marks left.

Y con esto y un bizcocho os dejo hasta la semana que viene.

Hi everyone.

Una vez al año suelo hacer "limpieza de primavera". A pesar del nombre suele ser en verano que es cuando más tiempo libre tengo. Pongo la casa patas arriba, reviso armarios e intento ordenar mis archivos digitales. Eso no es nada fácil pues como ya he confesado otras veces soy coleccionista de información, lo que incluye patrones de todo tipo. Teniendo en cuenta la cantidad de labores y manualidades que me gustan eso supone cientos de carpetas (nunca me he parado a mirar seriamente cuántas son de verdad, me da un poquitín de vértigo con solo planteármelo).

Once a year I use to do "spring cleaning". However the name the whole operation usually takes place in summer, when I have more spare time. I turn the whole house upside down, I check cupboards and try to classify my digital archives. This is not an easy task since, as I have mentioned before, I'm an information collector, which means every kind of pattern. Keeping in mind the amount of crafts I like you can imagine I have hundreds of folders (I have never tried to check how many of them I really have, I become a bit dizzy just to think of it).

Lo bueno de este proceso de limpieza además de las ventajas obvias es que de vez en cuando encuentras cosas de las que ni te acordabas. Algunas veces el hallazgo va directamente a la basura pero otras te trae buenos recuerdos. 

Good thing about all this cleaning (apart from the obvious advantages) is that now and then I find pieces I didn't remember about. Sometimes the finding goes directly to the garbage bin but sometimes it brings good memories.

El trabajo de hoy es de estos últimos obviamente.

Obviously the piece today is one to keep.

Es un pajarito bordado a punto de cruz de una colección de 12 pájaros que publicó la revista Burda. Sinceramente no sé cómo trabajan ahora, hace siglos que no les leo (principalmente por que los patrones de ropa no son lo mío... aún), pero antiguamente editaban algunos números especiales en punto de cruz. Aún tengo los esquemas de las diferentes colecciones: los pájaros, los árboles, los países europeos, los meses del año, los jarrones con flores... Ni sé. Tienen un estilo muy definido de los años 70-80 que me encanta, nada que ver con las tendencias actuales en diseños para punto de cruz (que también me chiflan).

It is a bird in cross stitch, from a collection of 12 published in Burda magazine. To be honest I don't know about their style right now, it has been ages since last time I read them (mainly because clothes patterns are not my tea... yet), but in the old days they use to publish some special editions about cross stitch. I still have the patterns for the different collections: birds, trees, European countries, months of the year, flower vases... So many. I love their distinctive style from the 70's - 80's, nothing to do with the actual trends for cross stitching (which I love too).

El punto de cruz fue la primera manualidad que me enganchó. Lo descubrí siendo una enana y me fascinó, como lo de pintar con puntos o por números. Me parecía mágico aquello de crear una imagen con hilos. Y ya que lo del dibujo artístico no se me da bien ésto era un sustituto aceptable.

Cross stitch was the first craft that got me. I first tried when I was a little brat and it captivated me, same as painting by numbers. It seem to me there was some kind of magic when creating an image with thread. And since I was less than pitiful with arthistic drawing this was an acceptable substitution.

Volviendo a este pajarito, acabó en casa de una prima después de ponerle un marco chulo (lo que me recuerda que tengo que buscar un taller de marcos que me guste por que al que yo iba habitualmente y que hacía verdaderas maravillas como la de la foto ha cerrado). Es una de esas personas que aprecia mucho cualquier detallito que tengas con ella y si es algo hecho a mano como este cuadrito aún más. Y como a ella también se le dan estupendamente las labores sé que es sincera en este tema.

Back to this little bird, it ended up at my cousin place after putting it in a nice frame (which brings to my mind I have to look for a new frame workshop since the one I use to go to who made wonderful works as the one in the picture has retired). She is one of those people who appreciates a lot any tiny courtesy you may show to her and if it is something hand made like this stitched picture she is delighted. And I know for sure she is honest about it since she is really crafted.

Y ya, ya lo dejo que me estoy poniendo tonta con tanto recuerdo tierno. Me voy a seguir limpiando.

Enough, I'm getting emotional with so many lovely memories. On my way to clean work.
